Del Monte May Eye Spectrum Brands Business with Significant Connection

Screenhunter_05_sep_27_0754Could Del Monte Foods be willing to shell out $1 billion for Spectrum Brands’ pet supply business? Potential buyers have until the end of September to propose their bids, and Del Monte is rumored to be one of the interested parties (see article from DealBook). An IntellectSpace Knowledge Map reveals that John A Heil, Spectrum’s President of Global Pet Supplies, has a strong link to a Del Monte Director. This key tie could definitely factor into takeover.

Heil, who also serves as Spectrum’s Co-Chief Operating Officer, spent 25 years serving in various Executive Management positions at Heinz. David R. Williams (Director of Del Monte) also spent a substantial number of years at Heinz as a Senior Executive and Board Member, with his time at the company overlapping that of Heil’s. Del Monte may find this strong connection to its takeover target especially advantageous in making a deal.
