Proctor & Gamble Loaded With Experience

Screenhunter_02_oct_30_1047Consumer-products giant Proctor & Gamble Co reported today that quarterly income increased 14% on the year due to increased sales laundry products, fragrances, razor blades, and diapers. P&G also warned that its profit margin will be under pressure for the foreseeable future due to rising raw material and energy costs (see article by Angela Moore and Matt Andrejczak from MarketWatch.com). We decided to create an IntellectSpace Knowledge Map to see the experience behind this global company that produces so many of our everyday products.

The corporate experience displayed by the Directors at P&G is quite impressive. The Directors hold or have held positions in various industries such as entertainment, online retail, energy, finance, airline, and telecommunications. Some of the more notable examples include Ernesto Zedillo (Member of the International Advisory Board at JPMorgan Chase, Director at Electronic Data Systems Corp and Alcoa), Charles Lee (former Chairman of Verizon Communications, currently a Director at DirectTV, Marathon Oil Corp, and US Steel Corp), Scott Cook (Director at eBay), Margaret Whitman (President/CEO of eBay and Director at Dreamworks Animation), Lynn Martin (Director at AT&T and Constellation Energy Group), James McNerney Jr (Chairman/President/CEO of The Boeing Company), John Smith (former Chairman/CEO of General Motors and former Chairman Delta Air Lines), and Rajat Gupta (Director of Goldman Sachs Group).

Besides vast experience in corporate leadership the experience of the Board of Directors in non-corporate leadership is equally impressive. Some of these examples are Fight Aids, the American-India Foundation, Duke University, Northwestern University, and the World Business Council for Sustainable Development. Extreme notable exceptions are Lynn Martin and Ernesto Zedillo. Martin was a Member of the United States House of Representatives from 1981-1991 and also served as Secretary of Labor under President Bill Clinton. Zedillo has held numerous positions in the Mexican government and was President of Mexico from 1994-2000.

With this overwhelming amount of experience the Directors seem more than capable of successfully confronting any situation P&G should face.
