Profits and Corporate Ties Demonstrate Intel’s Experience

Screenhunter_01_oct_17_1115How much management, leadership, and business experience can a group of computer scientists and engineering professors have? Quite a lot, as it turns out. Intel posted a 43% rise in profits for Q3, based largely on the soaring sales of microprocessors and laptop computers (see article from AOL Money and Finance). This comes after a massive restructuring program by Intel, in which it aggressively cut costs. We created an IntellectSpace Knowledge Map of the Board of Directors at Intel to “visualize” their experience (Note: the information contained and presented in Knowledge Maps is public information from the Securities and Exchange Commission of the United States of America).

We were surprised to find that several of the Directors hold directorships at companies involved in completely different industries. Some more notable examples are Pixar, Costco, Google, Charles Schwab, Office Max, Estee Lauder, American Express, Laura Ashley, News Corporation, Ford Motor Company, and China Netcom Group Corporation.

The Directors at Intel also hold several leadership positions in non-corporate organizations, such as the National Forest Foundation, Tsinghua University, the Asia Society, the National Committee on US-China Relations, the Council on Foreign Relations, and the National Bureau of Economic Research. In addition, Director Charlene Barshefsky is a former United States Ambassador and Trade Representative.

With soaring profits and an extremely high degree of experience, the Board of Directors at Intel should have little trouble keeping the company on solid ground.
