Directors’ Business Involvement at Boeing Likely to Help Keep Company on Right Course

Screenhunter_01_jan_04_0906 While the stock market experienced the jitters due to an uptick in the jobless rate, the Boeing Co (NYSE: BA) defied the market pessimism by announcing that its 2007 sales exceeded all of the previous records.

More specifically, a total of 80 different customers ordered new Boeing airplanes in 2007, bringing the net commercial airplane orders up to 1,413 for the year.  In addition, the company’s production lines will be busy for the next few years, since Boeing Commercial Airplanes now has over 3,400 unfulfilled airplane orders.

“It has been another strong year for commercial aviation, and we are grateful for our customers' trust in our team, and our products and services,” said Boeing Commercial Airplanes CEO/President Scott Carson.

Furthermore, Carson underscored Boeing’s competitive advantage over Airbus by stressing that Boeing had the vision to offer its customers cost-efficient aircraft, when he added:

“We are able to offer more new-technology airplanes to our customers than ever before, aircraft that are quieter and more fuel efficient, with significantly lower carbon dioxide emissions and reduced impact on local communities.”

Given the fact that Boeing made what turned out to be a sagacious business decision to offer its customers aircraft that are less expensive to operate, NewsVisual created an IntellectSpace Knowledge Map in order to illustrate who currently sits on the company’s Board of Directors and whether they are likely to offer its Management Team sound business advice into the future.

The Knowledge Map shows that most of the current Directors are involved with other companies, and thus are likely to understand the business climate and what the trends are in business planning.

In particular, the following Directors serve on the Boards of Directors for two or more companies:

Director Rozanne L Ridgeway serves on the boards of Sara Lee Corp, the 3M Co, and Manpower Inc; Director Arthur D Collins is the CEO/Chairman of Medtronic Inc and a Director at US Bancorp and Cargill Inc; Director Kenneth M Duberstein is the CEO/Chairman of the Duberstein Group and a Director at ConocoPhillips and St Paul Travelers Companies; and Director John E Bryson is the CEO/President/Chairman of Edison International and a Director at The Walt Disney Co.
