Disney Announces Decent EPS, But Markets Turn Cold Shoulder

Screenhunter_03_feb_05_1539 (NewsVisual, powered by IntellectSpace) -- The Walt Disney Company (NYSE: DIS) announced its first-fiscal-quarter results of diluted earnings per share were $0.63 on Tuesday.

The quarterly results excluded one-time gains from the sale of E! Entertainment and Us Weekly from the calculations, the company explained in its statement.

“We’ve started off 2008 with another outstanding quarter, marked by strong creative and operational performances,” said CEO/President Robert A Iger in the company’s statement.

“These results once again highlight the quality of our content and our unique ability to leverage it across our many businesses and territories.”

The markets greeted Disney’s announcement with a chilly response, sending its share price down from the previous close of $30.90 to $30.70 at the bell (4:00pm ET).
