Icahn Beats Motorola in Proxy Battle; Other Companies Lie in Wait for Potential Challenges

Screenhunter_03_mar_26_1008(NewsVisual, powered by IntellectSpace) -- In what could be just the first shoe dropping, the success that activist investor Carl Icahn just chalked up against Motorola Inc (NYSE: MOT) could be a harbinger of future battles with other companies in which he owns stock.

At the urging of Mr Icahn, Motorola said it will split into two publicly traded companies, separating its troubled cell-phone business from the rest of its operations, according to The Wall Street Journal.

"The activist investor sued Motorola to secure access to board documents to judge whether directors had upheld their fiduciary responsibility to shareholders," The Journal reported in its article.

This raises the inevitable questions as to whether Mr Icahn will engage in other proxy fights with other companies that he has an ownership stake in.

As the Senior Executives at Motorola could attest to no doubt, the ramifications of such challenges by Mr Icahn could be enormous.

NewsVisual created an IntellectSpace Knowledge Map that provides a visual representation of the many of other companies that Carl Icahn own shares of stock in and that could, consequently, face the same sort of proxy fights that he just conducted successfully against Motorola.
